Testimonial - 41 Year Old Woman
<< Back To Testimonials
I had laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass weight loss surgery.
Prior to surgery I had tried everything to lose weight.
I was depressed. I had constant back pain. I was always short of
breath and really couldn’t play or do anything active with my kids. I
had frequent, extremely painful heartburn. Even though I was tired all
the time, I couldn’t sleep through the night or deeply. I had sleep
apnea. I snored so loud I woke myself up. I was on the verge of
diabetes and serious heart disease. Worse yet, I was constantly
ignored.
It’s hard to believe that a 285 lb woman could be invisible. But I
was. If I was waiting in a line people turned away from me, or if they
did look at me it wasn’t in the eye, it was always a look of disdain
at my bloated body.
Considering weight loss surgery? I would do it again without
hesitation. I did my research. I knew the risks. I was afraid of
losing my best friend (food!). But I also knew I was headed for even
more depression, and even more health problems. And I wanted to be
around to see my daughters grow up, marry and have children of their
own.
Knowing that my surgical team was very experienced helped to
alleviate my fears. Equally important as their skills as surgeons is
the care they have for their patients and the team they work with. I
was treated with respect from the moment I met them.
My recovery was easy compared to the years I had spent being
unhappy and sick. I was up and around within days and feeling like I
had a whole new lease on life.
I still enjoy food. I eat more healthy foods now, but I really
don’t deny myself anything. If I want a sweet I have one, but instead
of eating a whole package of cookies, I’ll have one or two. I have
energy to spare. There’s so many things I couldn’t do before that I
find myself running out of time, rather than running out of energy or
breath.
I look good! I feel good! I’m not invisible anymore!
